BIODIESEL FILTRATION
World Minerals Announces Celite® Filter Aids Optimized for Biodiesel Filtration and Production
Celite filter aids maximize biodiesel yields as a result of improved filtration, dewatering, dewaxing and winterization.
Santa Barbara, California – World Minerals has announced the launch of two Celite products to improve biodiesel production, product yield, quality of final product and increased recovery. World Minerals is a global mining and minerals company and the world leader in minerals for filtration. World Minerals filter aids include diatomite, perlite and cellulose and have been recognized as the standard for vegetable oil and animal fat filtration for many decades. They now bring this expertise and quality products to the biodiesel industry with the launch of Hyflo® Super-Cel® and Celite® 545 VO filter aids for biodiesel filtration, dewatering and winterization.
Celite filter aids remove impurities from biodiesel, such as bleaching clay. Hyflo Super-Cel comes from marine diatomite which is 5-30% more efficient than fresh water diatomite due to the diversity of diatom shapes. It makes filtering more efficient at particle removal and makes the filter cake more stable during typical biodiesel processes, such as switching pumps. The Hyflo Super-Cel filter aid also dewaters while it filters, absorbing trace amounts of water from fats and oils.
Celite 545 VO filter aid was designed for dewaxing, also called “winterization”. By increasing the number and size of wax crystals, it facilitates removal of wax from the biodiesel. This step is necessary in cold climates where biodiesel requires stability at low temperatures and high wax content would make the biodiesel unusable in cold weather.
